The Beginning
Location: St Helens

In April, the EAZ Arts Consultant Karen Jaundrill-Scott and the St Helens Ranger Service were thrilled to receive a Local Heritage Grant to research “ The legacy of Samuel Taylor”. Parents and children throughout the Thatto Heath area of the Zone will be researching how the park was given to the borough by Samuel Taylor in Victorian times and in addition to this they will be interviewing local people about their memories and tales of years gone by.

The Local Heritage Initiative, who has provided the grant, is a partnership between the Heritage Lottery Fund, Nationwide building Society and the Countryside Agency and the culmination of the research will result in a book to be published in the autumn.

Artzone Artist Geoff Bennett is leading the project and he would like written
Contributions from the St Helens public which include personal memories and anecdotes to be sent to him at the EAZ Office c/o Thatto Heath Primary School Hobart St, St Helens.

There are many events planned over the coming months and they include Victorian Days were visitors to the park can try games from the era and Playlets in various park locations to recreate scenes from the past. Please see the press for further details of coming events.
