Victorian Day
Location: St Helens
On Wednesday, 2nd June. We held a Victorian Day at Taylor Park. The aim of this activity was to highlight the Victorian History and give visitors an idea of the sights and activities that may have been seen in the early 1890s.
On a bright afternoon in early June, families converged on the park to take part in an afternoon of Victorian elegance.
Samuel Taylor along with voluntary staff was available to introduce their visitors to all the fun of a Victorian Park.
Soon they were mastering the skills of iron hoop bowling, skipping, quoit throwing and top spinning to name but a few.
In many cases even the parents were unaccustomed to these strange toys but soon whole families were competing with each other to be the first to master the iron hoop or learn a trick with the diabolo.
The afternoon was a great success and it is hoped to build on the idea at similar events during late summer.
