Mellor Archaeological Project
Location: Stockport

At Mellor, an Iron Age Hill Fort and artefacts ranging from mesolithic to medieval occupation have been discovered.

The project is involving the local community via non-invasive survey work and a community outreach programme.

Topographical and geophysical surveys are being carried out to provide data for computer modelling. Surveys are being led by professional archaeologists. Volunteers are involved at all stages of the surveying and therefore have the opportunity to learn associated skills.

The project is planning an exhibition at the Parish Centre which will show stable finds, computer models and interpretation.

The project is producing a booklet, web site and information boards. It is also organising school activities and two open days.
