Gower Hey Wood
Location: Tameside

The group wishes to increase local community use of Gower Hey Wood. The Wood is an important local, natural heritage asset and the project hopes its plans will both conserve wildlife and assist in the training and personal development of the Gower Hey Conservation Group's members. It would also allow the wider community to appreciate both the local natural and industrial heritage.

The group intends to improve physical access and interpretation of both the natural and industrial heritage of the area once occupied by a cotton mill and waterwheel. The group will create a nature trail and signage, erect bird and bat boxes and carry out an ornithological survey.

In addition the group will restore a hedge and replant woodland wildflowers. They also intend to hold dry stone walling technique classes to repair existing walls on site.
