We have been making good progress in all our work.
Although the magnetometry and resistivity studies at Medmenham hill fort to look for the site of Bolebec's Castle have not revealed anything significant, there are signs of some sort of activity and this has been reported to the County Archaeologist for future reference. Since the site is a scheduled monument, excavation or any other kind of work needs to be properly justified. We will, however, continue our topographical survey of the entire hill fort itself, so that a detailed layout will be available in the future.
We have given several presentations to local groups and societies about the World War 1 training trenches at Pullingshill Wood and are about to give another at the Battlefield Archaeology conference organised by the MOD. We have produced a number of display boards of the work and these will also be used at a Marlow Museum event in August where the theme is going to be ' Marlow's Military History'.
The survey of Warren Wood is now complete and the results have been used create a 3-d graphic which shows the features of the earthwork. We are using this to make comparisons with others in the area in order to decide its date and function.
Throughout all this fieldwork, it has been our intention to make it available to all our members, their families and friends and judging by the wide range of participants, this has been very successful.
A leaflet has been produced showing the ROMADAM work and it is available in various public locations and we also presented it at our exhibition stand that we held at the Marlow Regatta.
So, our research is going well, we are getting through valuable, informative and constructive fieldwork and are now publicising all this very effectively to all the local Marlow people who have shown a huge amount of interest in it all.
