Events next in the programme
Location: Buckinghamshire
The Archaeology of downley Common has a very varied programme ranging from geophysics workshops, to art and photography workshops, to discovering how to do archaeology (field and workshops) to computer studies of our data, to fieldwork like geophysics, fieldwalking and excavations. Keep tuning in here to find out what is going on next and book in with us on the Common!
The excavations are now finished with some interesting results, but there is still lots more research into archives and a landscape survey to do.

Old photographs and slides
Venue: Downley area

Photographs of old Downley are required for the book - can you help? I will take the utmost care of your photos (or slides) and scan them into digital form and return them immediately to you. Full acknowledgement of the material will be given and you get a FREE BOOK of course!
Please send to: Chiltern Archaeology Downley Team, 13 Pusey Way, Lane End, Bucks, HP14 3LG chilternarchaeology@btopenworld.com

Landscape/map work
Venue: tbd

We will need to do a landscape analysis - using all the maps we have accumulated and using our own data from the fieldwork and research. If your name is on the list for this then you will be contacted as each event takes place (in Downley Memorial Hall) during June and July.

Art and photography on the Common
Venue: Downley Common

We need a photographic record (continuing) of our work and also the Common and people of today's Common - no excuses - come and have a look at what we are doing, bring your camera or art materials - and get to work with us! Perhaps someone could volunteer to add some photos to our collections - nice 'Common scenes' and people-pictures too.

Book writing
Venue: various

We need help with writing the project book: Archaeology and history of Downley Common I have much of it in hand but still need volunteers who may be able to either: (1) write various (short) chapters such as Roman and Anglos Saxon Downley; Medieval Downley and Victorian Downley, or (2) research information and images suitable for the book for someone else to write up. Even a very short piece will be acceptable on these periods as it seems there is very little information available - unless you manage to find some!!
