This is a three year project to restore, through community participation, three ponds on common land. The project is also planning their future management. Furthermore, the project is interpreting the common, its history and wildlife, and is planning on sharing this with the community by producing a leaflet.
The ponds are a characteristic feature of the Chilterns where there are over a hundred commons. The project is conserving wildlife and improving habitats.
One of the ponds is on private land. The parish council is working with the landowner, local conservation organisations and volunteers to produce a plan for the future management of these heritage features.
Volunteers from the community are carrying out practical conservation work, recruiting additional volunteers and researching and producing the leaflet.
Children from the local school are participating in pond dipping, wildlife survey work and in finding out about the history of the ponds.
