Restoration & Enhacement of the Clock Tower
Location: Buckinghamshire

Built in 1845 as a loving tribute to the wife of a Rector of Emberton, the clock tower has been the village timepiece and the focus of village activity for 150 years. The importance of this feature to local people is demonstrated by their insistence that the Millennium photograph was taken in front of it rather than the 13th century church. Local fairs, fetes and New Year's Eve celebrations all take place around the clock tower.

The project will involve the renovation and cleaning of the building and the dismantling and restoration of the clock and bell mechanism. This work will include the installation of a staircase to allow access to the clock by the public.

Research into the history of the clock and surrounding square will be carried out by pupils at Emberton First School (ages 5-8) who will produce their own illustrations for the booklet. Other outputs will include a CD Rom, information published on the village web site and a clock tower exhibition and open day.
