St Osyth's Well & Village of Bierton
Location: Buckinghamshire

St Osyth's Well, adjacent to the local church, is probably the strategic reason for the original settlement in Bierton. As such, the well has significant heritage interest for the surrounding area.

The well was in a state of disrepair and the project restored it as closely as possible to its original condition. The project also improved the well's surroundings.

This involved improving access, providing seating for wonderful views across The Chilterns and erecting a history/information board. This tells the history of the well in context with the local area.

The project had support from much of the local community. Members of the Local Garden and Allotment Society provided support, labour and planting.

The local 777 Conservation Group, consisting of local children aged 6-16, has pledged to maintain the site for the future.

A social event was held in May 2001 and the whole of the local community was invited. The well was officially opened by The Bishop of Buckingham.
