The Knotty Green Pond Project
Location: Buckinghamshire
The pond at Knotty Green used to be one of many in a predominantly agricultural area. It is very much a feature of local heritage. It was, for example, once used for sheep-dipping. The project restored the pond and recorded its changing role throughout the history of the village by an on-site information board. Local groups and individuals participated both in the restoration work and in researching the history of the pond. The scheme had many benefits, not least of which was be the provision of an amenity area accessible to all - including those in wheelchairs. The project also enhanced the natural heritage of the area through the pond's designation as a local wildlife sanctuary and educational resource. To find out in more detail how the project developed, read the accompanying pages.
