Dive On To Victory
Location: City of Southampton

Local communities personal maritime and nautical stories about a life at sea, working in the dockyards and other nautical trades will be recorded. To ensure high quality historical data the group will be trained in recording reminiscences. The information gathered will contribute to 8000 leaflets and at least 10 outreach presentations, accompanied with a travelling display.

The part of the project is a maritime archaeology investigation into the seabed of Portsmouth harbour where hms Victory moored after active service. Small personal items will be removed with the supervision of professional marine archaeologists and used to investigate the everyday lives of sailors.

To ensure a wide audience the archaeology will be filmed through the use of a remote operated vehicle to the audience on the shore. The group will host workshops in video editing and other IT skills to ensure high quality images to be used in the presentations. The group will also produce 10 display boards interpreting the projects archaeological and oral history research.
