The aim of this project is to raise awareness of local traditions and history specific to two towns in Kent and East Sussex. A further aim is to bridge the communication gap between elderly and young people. Elderly people from a local day centre will work with a creative writer who will help them search their memories and research the past heritage and traditions specific to their towns. They will then share these memories of stories and heritage with a group of local school children.
Both age groups will then work together with a professional artist to interpret the history and traditions of the area through two art features. The completed artworks will be on permanent display in a local castle and leisure centre.
Other project outputs will include colour brochures containing information on the project and extracts from the research carried out. These will be distributed widely in the community. Scrap books and photographs will be kept permanently at Uckfield and Tonbridge Libraries where they will be made available to the local community and visiting tourists.
