Kemp Town Through A Prism
Location: East Sussex

Kemp Town is situated on the outskirts of the city of Brighton. The project will show a snapshot of Kemp Town through a now and then look at the area. The project involves a number of community groups who will be investigating Kemp Town's beginnings through visiting the local records office for photographic images and hosting 4 reminiscence events to gather oral histories.

Once the research is completed 5000 booklets reflecting different aspects of people and traders lives, such as the Mackerel Fishing Fleet and a Family Butchers who were appointed by King George IV, maps will also be included to demonstrate the changes to Kemp Town. The group will produce interpretation boards designed to demonstrate the changes to Kemp Town.

The boards will be supported by a travelling exhibition which will be predominantly used during the Brighton festival to go to less mobile members of the community. To ensure the highest quality, the group will undertake training in developing IT skills, desktop publishing, oral history and historical research.
