Recording the History & Heritage of East Hoathly & its Surroundings
Location: East Sussex
To facilitate the recording in electronic media of the history, the present and the future as it unfolds, of our village and its surrounds.
We are beginning our project and are recruiting expertise and help from within our community.
Our first event recording of living history took place on January 20th 2006 and was entitled "All those Yesterdays" - an evening of memories led by Mrs Rosemary Akehurst including Mrs Daisy Isted, Mrs Marjorie Isted, Mrs May Keeley, Mr Bert Jenner, Mr Harry Mann and Mr George Payne. Sound files and pictures will hopefully be available in due course.
We are beginning our project and are recruiting expertise and help from within our community. Chris Young, an architect and keen digital photographer is digitising and cataloguing the Preservation Society’s collection of donated 20th century slides. We intend to catalogue and digitise all the society’s collection of postcards and photographs.
Christopher Whittick at the East Sussex Records Office was consulted and has arranged for the habitat survey of 1999 to be digitally photographed. Eddie Goodridge is arranging to put the map in the format that is usable by Mapmaker in conjunction with Sussex Wildlife Trust. The notes that were made to go with the map will be attached as will the bird survey list of 1999.
Also attached to these notes is the summary of meetings held by the East Hoathly & District Preservation Society 2003 - 2005
