Local project exhibition
Location: East Sussex
On Friday, 18th November 2005, residents of Winchelsea were offered a special opportunity to learn more about the ‘Uncover Winchelsea’ at an all-day exhibition staged in the Town’s ancient Court Hall.
Residents were able to handle the E-Guides that visitors will be able to hire to guide them around the points of historic interests in the Town and see how a new display of information will be triggered at each point of interest by proximity to a small microchip.
The exhibition displayed information about the origins of the project, its aims, which sites would be included in the tour, which sites would be reconstructed, some historic background, the technology, the organisation of the project, local and external partners, and the cost and funding.
The project’s consultant archaeologist and members of the Winchelsea Archaeological Society were on hand to answer questions about the reconstruction and explain how much more the project has revealed more about medieval Winchelsea than we knew before. Visitors also received a privileged preview of the latest reconstruction, including a view of the medieval port and a house called The Armoury.
