H.M.S. Cricket/Cricket Camp - Heritage Initiative
Location: Hampshire
The project is located in the Manor Farm Country Park, Hampshire, which incorporates the original site of a World War II Royal Marine Landing Craft Crew Training Base. This subsequently became "The Cricket Camp" where victims of the bombing campaign against Southampton lived from 1946-1952.
The main project aims are: - to carry out a detailed land survey of the site to locate and record the position and type of individual buildings, docking bays and associated infrastructure;
- to involve the community by asking them to contribute their accounts and experiences of service life at hms Cricket from 1942-46 and the lives of displaced and demobbed citizens who lived there between 1946-52;
- to make a photographic record of the site in it's present state and then advertise for the loan of old photos;
- to collate and record the data in a booklet format;
- to adapt the visitors centre to enable the proper display of information gained from the community;
- to provide an information board and a quiet seating area,
- to mount an exhibition to coincide with the 60th anniversary of "D Day".
