Selborne in Living Memory
Location: Hampshire

Selborne was home to Gilbert White, the celebrated 18th century naturalist and author of "The Natural History and Antiquities of Selborne".

There are three phases to this project. The first phase is the production of a heritage map of the parish.

The second phase is involving the older residents who are being interviewed in order to provide an oral and written history of Selborne. Their input is being supplemented by the views and remarks of children in the village.

The information that is being obtained during the interviews is providing material for the third phase. For the third phase, the project is producing a photographic and artefacts exhibition, a CD Rom and a book.

Included in the exhibition will be "entertainment" in the church consisting of readings by local people, both young and old, and newspaper accounts of past important events.

All local organisations are supporting the project and the parish council is helping towards the funding. The Selborne Association, which consists of around 200 members, is also supporting the project.
