The Wells & Pilgrim Project
Location: Isle of Wight

The project aims to revive and make a focus of the pilgrimage and holy well traditions of the parishes of Whitwell & St Lawrence on the Isle of Wight. Both the wells at Whitwell & St Lawrence will be restored and refurbished, access will be improved and interpretation facilities erected.

The Pilgrim Way, which links both wells, will be waymarked with signs made by local craftspeople. Local people from both parishes will be involved in "well dressing", and in a series of seminars and workshops. The local schools are particularly interested in the project and are planning to incorporate activities into the school curriculum.

An inaugural Whitwell Well Dressing Festival and Village Event will take place in the summer to be followed by the St Lawrence project launch and Village Open Day. Leaflets, education booklets and a web site will also be produced.
