A Courtyard Interpretation of Faversham's Natural & Built Environment
Location: Kent

The Courtyards at the Fleur de Lis Centre in Faversham link a number of medieval buildings, which were substantially re-built in the 16th Century. The group aims to refurbish and restore the courtyards.

In the internal gallery entitled “Early Faversham” a significant stone coffin lid is on view, which was originally part of Davington Priory. This will be placed in a transparent case for the general public to view properly. A tactile geological map of Kent, to include Braille and colour interpretations, will also be produced as well as a tiled wall plan of the town’s famous gunpowder factories.

Other restorations include: a well and workable pump, enamel shop and inn signs, a funeral bier, an early ambulance, a hand plough and early street signs of Faversham. Project outputs include a visitors guide for the courtyards, interpretation boards and information on the project will be placed on the group’s web site.
