Conservation of Leigh Gunpowder Site
Location: Kent

The group’s primary aim is to undertake archaeological and historical research which will lead to the production of a report.

The report will inform further conservation efforts which will be undertaken with community involvement. The production of the report will be done with professional supervision, and training will be provided for the group to undertake the majority of the work themselves.

The report will also form the basis for working with schools to create educational materials including an education pack relating to the site and a CD ROM for use by schools, the group also intend to create talks that can be given at schools.

A tree management plan and an overall management plan for the site will be created. The group also intend to create an exhibition for the local village hall to present the findings of the report and provide mobile display boards for use at other public events. They will also provide guided tours of the site.

In addition, there will also be a series of public lectures given to other local interest groups. The project will be documented on the groups already existing website.
