Open Garden
On Sunday 19 June 2005 a well-attended Open Garden event was held at Mote Hall. It was a beautiful, warm summer’s day. In the marquee tea and cakes were served and there was the opportunity to see the plans for Phase 2 of the design for the site with information available on the various species of trees that can be sponsored. Many thanks to Dena and Richard Ashness for hosting the event on behalf of the BWT.

Bearsted Fayre 2005
The Trust made quite a showing at the village fayre this year. A ‘copse’ of trees for sale was assembled around the booth, giving a sample of what could be donated and visitors were invited to join or to renew their subscriptions. They could also take part in the BWT Treasure Hunt in order to place their flag on the spot where the ‘treasure’ was hidden in the Trust’s land. The lucky winner received a bottle of ‘champagne’ and the junior prize included lots of goodies.

Leaflets describing the plans for Phase 2 were distributed to passers by and a large map, depicting the site plans, attracted considerable interest. To top it off, a splendid computer slide show of Trust events over the past year ran continuously, accompanied by beautiful music. Thanks to strenuous effort by many volunteers, the Trust was able to make a contribution to the Bearsted Fayre Committee.

Footpath Opening
More than 200 people attended the official opening of the footpaths by Miss Pauline Moore and Cllr. Richard Ash in September 2005. Pauline, who is going to bequeath a further 10 acres to add to the 12 already owned by BWT, said "No wonder that we smile! How pleased we shall be to walk this path, and hobble and ride, without all the mud." She then cut ribbons held across the path by children from five Bearsted schools, and afterwards nearly everyone walked round the circuit.
