St. John the Baptist Churchyard
Location: Kent

St John the Baptist church has stood on the site for over 750 years and used by the Knights of St John during the 13th century. The older part of the churchyard has not been diturbed for over 100 yars providing the perfect place for rare plants, as discovered in a biological survey in 2000.

The group will use the survey as the base of the project in which the community and sch9ool will carry on further research on the habits that are within the churchyard. Northwest Kent Countryside Partnership will run the workshops to include wildflower identification, hederow planting for the local community.

Information gathered through the workshops will contribute to information and educational leaflets. The group are going to investigate the different types of grave within the churchyard, some of wealthy locals and others paupers graves.

They are going to research common names on the tombs and link these in with the current inhabitants of Sutton at Hone. This information will be uploaded on to the web site so that it will be widely available to all.

The group are going to run a series of presentations for local schools and groups, and any information collect4ed in these visits will also be added to the website.
