The Preservation and Restoration of Collier Streets Apple Orchards Phase 2
Location: Kent
Phase II is to build on the success of Phase I. The project will continue with the restoration of these old orchards to ensure they are preserved for future generations. Also, to enjoy, by restoring the drainage ditches and ancient pond within one orchard, whilst also protecting the important wildlife habitat. The local community will be heavily involved.
Phase I was unable to introduce bee hives (due to the population dying out), but the group have now joined Kent Beekeepers Association and hope to do this part of the project in this phase.
Training days for owners of the orchards and locals will be arranged for pruning (minimal due to overspend in Phase I) and hedgelaying. Another Blossom Day will be arranged and another Annual Apple Day, for October 2003.
