The Green Pond has been a watering place for livestock for at least 300 years. In more recent history, it has served steam traction engines. The pond has also become an important wildlife habitat. The pond is in a bad state of repair and the primary aim of the project is to carry out restoration work. This will be done both by contractors and local volunteers.
Volunteers will also continue to carry out research into the history of the pond. Information derived from this research will be made available to local people and the wider public via information boards, booklets and two exhibitions of information and photographs.
