The Archaeological Dig
Location: Oxfordshire
Part of the White Horse Project was to investigate a possible Iron Age settlement near to the village of Uffington. Was this the original site of the village and could the Iron Age inhabitants have cared for the White Horse?
Members of the local community volunteered to help in an archaeological dig during an October weekend.
We were helped by a team from Oxford Archaeology who briefed the volunteers beforehand. We were shown what to look for and how to dig. We all enjoyed the experience of archeolgoical investigation at first hand - looking for pieces of pot, traces of ditches and post holes.
The finds were labelled, collected and washed by volunteers.
