Clayfield Copse
Location: Reading

4th June 2005 Woodlands Day - free event for all the family, come and have a great day out in the country.

Clayfield Copse was the first nature reserve in Reading, it comprises of ancient woodland, which was once part of the Caversham House Estate whose landscapes were designed by Capability Brown.

The Friends of Clayfield Copse hold monthly work parties in Clayfield Copse or adjoining Blackhouse Wood, these are to carry out management work in the woods to maintain access and improve diversity. The work parties are held on the first Sunday of each month at 10am, meet in the car park, they are open to all.

The Friends of Clayfield Copse are going to, with part of the grant finish off two paths to allow all weather access to the two woods.

The friends of Clayfield Copse will produce an interpretation leaflet so that the hidden heritage, such as ancient plough lines pre-dating the black death and chalk mines under the woods, are shared with all.

The group will also host a woodland day as the finale on 4th June 2005, which will have demonstrations of traditional woodland crafts such as wood turning. There will also be a full day of events and guided walks covering many aspects of the woodlands and it's plants and wildlife. There will be many events for children as the event will be part of Reading Children Festival. This day will be free to all.
