Merrow Village War Memorial Restoration
Location: Surrey

The Merrow Village War Memorial is dedicated to those who lost their lives in World Wars I and II.

The project restored and renovated the memorial and carried out extensive research into the names inscribed on it.

The project placed a strong emphasis on involving local schools. Two schools integrated aspects relating to the memorial into their curriculum studies of the two World Wars. Studies of the memorial also formed part of an outdoor education programme for another school project.

The memorial itself was re-dedicated on 12th May 2002 by the Right Reverend John Kirkham, former Bishop of Sherborne and former Bishop to the Forces. The service was attended by Mrs Sue Doughty, MP for Guildford, Councillor Tony Phillips, representatives of the Britsh Legion and the three Services and relatives of those who died in the two world wars together with a large congregation from the local community.

A Memorial Exhibition Day took place. A Book of Remembrance was also produced.
