The Book of Remembrance
Location: Surrey

The Merrow War Memorial Book of Remembrance contains details of all those commemorated on the memorial, including one who is not on the memorial but should have been.

Where possible we have included information on where they lived, the regiment or unit to which they belonged, their age, rank, date and place of death and information on the actions in which they died, together with maps.
A number died of natural causes, particularly pneumonia, due to the appalling conditions in which so many existed.
The important point is that everyone is covered in the book, a task that became considerable feat of persistent research. The bibliography of the book gives some idea of the lengths to which we had to obtain all the information! An example of just what we found out about people can be found on the page on this site about Charles Lewis Woods.
