We now have a splendid map of the town. It illustrates each building but gives emphasis to those of historic significance. The work of Brian Hoskin of St. Germans, educated in Liskeard and a professional illustrator, this map is in a unique style but has the advantage over an isometric one in that it shows the fronts of all buildings on both sides of the roads. It means that those following the trail will easily be able to identify both any building referred to and just where they are at any point. Attached is a small sample section.
The group investigating signboards and fingerposts and just what they should be made of and where to put them and seeking planning consent, has made good progress and should soon make their final decisions. Similarly those working on the guiding and information text have just about completed it and it looks as if it should fit into the space available pretty well.
The introduction to the Trail Guide gives a brief history of the town.
There will be two Junior Trail booklets available. These are activity packs designed by teenagers for younger children. They contain a mixture of questions and puzzles and one or two activities to keep children alert and occupied as their parents go round the trail, or for them to go round on their own.
Some training courses are in hand and others are being arranged, on digital photography, formatting text, and video making, and shortly we shall be exploring how best to cater for the physically disabled in this town with its steep hills and granite curbs.
