Ed and Hazel Harradence - our LHI story
Location: Cornwall

Ed and Hazel Harradence are members of the Friends of Luxulyan Valley. Here they talk about their part in the Luxulyan Valley project.

Ed: The Friends of Luxulyan Valley wanted to publish a booklet about the valley, and discovered the LHI scheme through a member of the Friends who used to work at the Bodmin Community Projects office.

Hazel: Back in 1992 there was a special ceremony down in the valley when the deeds were handed over from what was then English China Clay to Restormel and Cornwall County Council. Ed and I were there, and we managed to get one of the last available copies of a booklet called ‘Walking the Tramway Trail’ by John Smith of Cornwall Archaeological Unit. It had such a lot of really interesting details in it, and so many people were asking for information about the valley. But when we tried to get more copies, we found there weren’t any to be had.

Ed: We contacted John Smith, who generously allowed us to revise and re-use the material from his booklet, and the LHI grant made it possible for us to pay for the printing and other costs.
