The promotion of Looe's Rich Historical Character
Location: Cornwall

This project aims to explore the history of Looe, in this case, concentrating on the life and work of Joseph Thomas, a Civil Engineer who had a profound influence on the built environment and fortunes of the town.

The group wish to involve the whole community in the research and presentation of their findings. The project will provide a series of pamphlets for both children (to be designed by them), and adults (which include a specific Joseph Thomas heritage trail around the town), there will also be a children’s quiz.

Plaques will be sited at relevant sites around the town and a viewing point is to be set up with an information panel set into local stone, overlooking some of Thomas’s most significant work.

The group also plan a permanent local exhibition and a travelling exhibition that can be taken to local venues to help ensure full community accessibility. The group will develop a website and hold a series of workshops and presentations to take the project out to the community.

The NBS award will further assist with the outreach work of the group by providing a projector, laptop and camera to allow presentations and reports to be presented in schools, retirement homes or in the homes of those unable to get out.
