The Three Islands Project
Location: Cornwall
The internationally recognised theatre group of Cornwall, Kneehigh, will provide workshops and training sessions to involve the community in exploring their heritage through the arts. The project will promote the town’s heritage and culture through performances by participants during the Hayle Heritage Fortnight.
It will do this by taking aspects of the history of Hayle like the fishing industry and its engineering connections. The community will look at how the town has changed and how its customs and traditions are now being influenced by tourism and a new economy.
The project aims to reflect the community’s own culture and environment through performance incorporating the experience and memories of local people. Reflecting their local industry, customs, traditions and heritage as well as exhibitions of the work of the project.
These will build awareness and understanding by the local community of their heritage and build the skills of the community to go on and do further exploratory work on their heritage.
A summer school will actively target local 18 – 30 year olds and an outreach programme will open the project to the wider community.
