The project aims to raise awareness of the significance of the historic Chulmleigh Fair dating back 750 years and its contribution to the cultural heritage of the area. It will be achieved by investigating and recording the customs and traditions associated with the Fair and by producing an archive of information through old newspaper clippings, photographs and original Fair posters.
The material found will be presented in a community exhibition and made available through the production of a booklet and CD-ROM as well as oral history tapes.
Training will be provided to ensure that subsequent fairs can add to the collection so preserving the traditions for the future.
