Bratton Clovelly Heritage Project, Pack Horse Trail
Location: Devon
This project set out to raise awareness of the local heritage of the parish of Bratton Clovelly by establishing a waymarked trail complemented by a printed leaflet which highlights and explains the many and distinct aspects of the heritage of the village - its physical landscape, social changes, and famous sons and daughters.
Local people of all ages were fully involved in the creation of the trail, which was officially opened with great festivities in May 2002. A colourful crowd gathered on a warm sunny day to walk the route together, accompanied by a real packhorse carrying half-way refreshments. At waymarked points along the way, songs, stories, riddles and local customs were performed by local children and the Wren Trust with the Bratton and Red Spider Singers.
