"The LHI scheme has worked very well for us, and hopefully what we have produced will be of value for posterity. We would probably have been able to do something like this eventually, but it would have taken much longer and we wouldn’t have had all the equipment.

Our funding enabled us to buy a laptop computer, a fairly good digital camera, and some simple audio recording equipment. Most of the money went to pay for the printing of the book. Two of us attended a digital camera course paid for by the LHI, and there are courses here run by the local authority that members can go on.

We’re lucky enough to be able to use the facilities of the Devon County Council at a local school, where they have a suite of computers and a good teaching screen, and we attended lessons there to improve our skills or learn how to use the computer. One of the spin-offs from this project is that three or four members have purchased computers for themselves.

We found out about LHI through neighbouring villages who were doing something similar - Loddiswell in particular had already done a project using LHI money. We invited their man over to give us a talk, and decided to go on from there. The Western Morning News also carried various articles on such projects elsewhere in Devon which encouraged us. The Newspaper is soon to publish an account of our book

After I’d filled in all the forms, and the members commented, one of the LHI team, Sarah Taragon, cast her eye over our application and came down to see us and made one or two suggestions about how to involve the community. She was very helpful. I keep in contact with her and we go to her for advice on financial and procedural matters."

Another feature of our project has been the use we have made of the LHI website. John Pitt, one of our members, has been the expert on that – to such an extent that soon we hope also to have our own site up and running".
