Memories of Wartime Torbay
Location: Devon

The aim of the project is to increase awareness of the effect of the second world war on the cultural heritage and customs and traditions of the people who lived and worked in the Torbay area. The first phase of an intended multi-phased project covering other periods of the 20th century will concentrate particularly on the events of D-Day on 6 June 1944.

This project will be achieved by involving local people in gathering recollections through oral history recording and gaining skills in archiving, computing, interviewing and working with the media. Material gathered would be incorporated into a local exhibition.

Other outputs include a permanent oral history archive stored and publicly available in the local Museum and a CD resource available through local museums and libraries and through the museum website and the LHI website .5000 leaflet flyers will also be available to promote the project and give an idea of the scope of the archive.
