Plum Day
Location: Devon

The project aims to create a sense of pride and awareness of the unique variety of plum trees growing in the village of Dittisham as part of the natural and cultural heritage of the area to be achieved through a range of methods and events including the holding a celebration, ‘plum day’ and will engage both village residents and visitors by holding several events throughout the day including a guided trail, a surgery on tree care, and a lantern procession.

Local people will also be encouraged to participate in an oral history project where memories of peoples association with the fruit can be recorded. These will be included in a printed publication that will include traditional recipes associated with the fruit. The book will include a map showing the location of all the plum trees in the village. The planting of new trees and the care of existing ones will also be included through tree surgeries and workshops.

The principle costs will be £4831 for materials and equipment, £10,915 for professional fees, £2948 for design, printing and photography, £766 and volunteer costs £700
