The Play.
WE HAD A FEW PROBLEMS!
The main problem that we had was with the production of the play. Three weeks before the Festival the group who had been working on the production of the play decided that they would not be able to put on a production of an acceptable standard. There had been some communication problems between our committee and the group regarding the music and singers that were required in the play and this caused their decision. It became obvious that the only way we could hope to stage the play in any form was to do it as a Workshop & Play Reading. I was able to get people to read some of the parts and managed to track down a local ‘Community Choir’. From their members, we were able to persuade enough of them to agree to take the singing parts in the play. I also tracked down a children’s drama group, as several children were needed in the cast, their teacher was very helpful and immediately arranged for them to take part. I found a drama teacher to direct the production and a full day rehearsal was arranged for a Saturday. As we were a few cast members short, I managed to persuade some of the singers to read parts! The feedback from the audience was that they thought it went very well and many, in fact, joined in the songs, as we had hoped.
The Newfoundland Artists Travelling Arrangements.
There were some technical problems with the plane bringing the Newfoundland artists to the UK (apparently there was something wrong with one of the navigation systems which meant that they had to stay fairly near land and could not go straight across the ocean!). This resulted in them being about 2 hours later than we had expected. Consequently they missed their first spot, which was a ‘Meet the Artist’ spot. We were able to substitute another artist to take their place. They were able to do all their other spots.
