08/6/05 Evening presentation--advertised in local papers, radio and local places. Informed local Groups and schools. Well attended.
June/July,05 Meetings held with the various groups who have shown interest. Lots of enthusiasm and interest was generated. Problems--difficulty in using website which was overcome from the excellent training provided by Cosmic at lottery, St Mary, Devon. They also gave us training in digital camera, which I am slowly getting to grips with, thanks to support from staff at Dartmoor photographic in Tavistock. Achievements--At the end of all our meetings we have 17 groups and 14 individuals wanting to be involved. Emma Spring the Artist has visited all the groups, and they have created individual or group samples. We all have enjoyed the experience, and look forward to starting the project.
Aug/Sept/Oct 05 We have on-going workshops on all the sites and monthly social meetings to chat about progression. During one of our monthly meetings we had Gerry Woodcock, the local historian, who gave us a very informative talk about all our sites. Gerry kindly gave us some books and photos for the groups to use. During September we had training in website and digital photography. Problems -- Minor problem, Emma had to reschedule all her workshops due to a family problem but everyone was very supportive and understanding. Achievements -- I am slowly getting to grips doing this website - thanks to the support of Linda Chilvers.
Nov/Dec 05 On-going workshops on all the sites. We are very lucky during our project to have Tom Kiely, a local student from Tavistock Community College, who has been visiting the workshops and photographing some of the groups. During his Christmas vacation from university, he kindly did the voice-over on the video with Emma at framework Studios in Plymouth.
Jan 06 Emma spent all night and day doing workshops in all the various groups. Some groups pulled out for various reasons. Reminded all groups to complete consent forms for photographs.
Feb/March 06 Emma is now building her frame and positioning the completed tiles. I have booked Tavistock Library to hold an exhibition from April 3rd for two weeks for the general public.
April/06 03/04/06 to 18/04/06 Exhibition of Mosaic held at Tavistock Library. All involved invited and publicity in local press.
May/06 Excellent feedback from exhibition.
June/06 The grand launch held on 23 June at 2pm on a beautiful sunny day, where over 100 people were invited, including the local press. The Mayor of Tavistock, Caroline Keane unveils the mosaic, and asks individuals from each community group to come and discribe their tile.Afterwards we all walk to the Ordulph Arms for well earned refreshments and the final exhibition. This includes all the practice tiles and a wide range of photos which most of the groups take away with them.I have kept photcopies of some of the work for storage in the local Library, plus a video and a CD of photos. It is lovely to meet everyone from all ages who obviously enjoyed the project, and are pleased to see the completed work.I must now prepare the leaflet, to explain each tile so people can locate each historical building or location. Many thanks to the large number of people involved, and for all the support from our local community.
