A year in Dorset with Steps in Time
Location: Dorset

The aim of the project is to create a record of traditional local Dorset dances and to provide a means of passing on the skills and knowledge thereof. The group aim to create a DVD with accompanying booklet recording the history of the local dances, how they are taught to local children by a local expert.

It will also include the dances being performed at local seasonal celebrations as they would have been done throughout the ages. The result will not only help raise awareness of the importance of the dances but act as a teaching tool in order for them to be passed on to future generations. Workshops will be held - open to all ages - on traditional dance skills, music, costume etc. and will be used as a gathering place to collect people’s memories and anecdotes.

A free launch event for the whole community will be held where the dances will be performed and further demonstrations will be held in local schools.
