Cerne Abbas - how an LHI project develops and stimulates ideas

Cerne Abbas - involving the community in its past, and its present

Cerne Abbas Heritage Project
Location: Dorset

This project aims to bring the village's heritage into the public domain by creating several themed, permanent exhibitions as well as information boards placed around the village. It will also work to establish an archive for all historical material about the village in liaison with Dorset Record Office and Dorset County Museum.

In additon it will research the history of the mediaeval houses in Abbey Street and produce a report.

The community will be actively involved in all aspects of research, design and production of the various elements and workshops will be held to create opportunities for learning new heritage based skills. The core of the project is to use heritage to place the village in the context of its historical continuum; to improve local knowledge and at the same time create a more holistic experience for the visitor.
