East Stoke Heritage Project
Location: Dorset

This project has developed through the community involvement in the drawing up of a Parish Plan funded by the Countryside Agency. The group wish to develop a heritage trail within the Parish to conserve the ruins of old St. Mary’s – a 13th century church.

This will be done through some stonework restoration (funded by the Parish Council), the laser scanning of remaining gravestones. There will also be two geophysical surveys of the site and 5 information boards will be installed at various locations around the parish relating to key features and events.

The history of several local features will be researched and recorded in a pamphlet. A management plan for St Mary’s will be produced to preserve and conserve the site and which will include protecting the ecology to secure its future as a biodiversity area.
