Queen's Park Archaeology
Location: Dorset

The aim of the project is to raise awareness of the local heritage of an area of Bournemouth with particular emphasis on the period before 1800. This will be achieved by involving local people in a detailed archaeological survey of the open space known as Queen’s Park with particular reference to banks and ditches and an apparent ancient track.

Professional archaeologists have agreed to provide both on-site and classroom based education and training on the surveying, excavation and interpretative techniques that they will be using for the benefit of local people including schoolchildren.

The Conservation Sciences Department of Bournemouth University will supervise the work.

An oral history and archive has also been undertaken documenting peoples memories dating back eighty years. A book has been written summarising all which has been learnt.
