Stories of the Forest
Location: Gloucestershire

The project aims to encourage the young people in the Coleford area to explore their historic customs and tradition through the collection of old local stories, myths and folk tales. These will be used as the inspiration for interpretive theatre and film which expresses their understanding of and feelings about the Forest of Dean, its traditions and environment.

The stories will be collected from the local community and then explored during 6 workshops which will develop the group’s ideas toward creating public performances for the local community. These will be performed at the site of Beechenhurst Lodge.

The performance will be filmed and copies of the film will be made publicly available through libraries etc. It is hoped that the performance will encourage greater understanding and further research both on the part of performers and the audience.
