Celebrating Somerset's Hedges
Location: Somerset

Local people are involved in a variety of projects about hedgerows, throughout the county.

Representatives of nine parishes and ten specific groups and societies are taking part. Each project is locally owned and locally organised, although skills, knowledge and resources are being shared between the projects.

The aim is to investigate hedgerows as natural features.

Those participating are examining evidence of local legends and tales related to hedgerows. They are also studying Saxon characters and surveying the field boundaries which are of the greatest historic interest.

Hedge craft workshops are being organised, using experienced local tutors. Interpretative and educational material is being produced in order to raise awareness of the importance of hedgerows among the wider general public.

The project is also developing a website.
