Somerset Apple Project
Location: Somerset

A Somerset Levels Apple Orchard in blossomThe aim of the project is to raise awareness of the history of apple growing within the levels and moors and its relevance to the local natural, industrial and cultural heritage of the area. This will be achieved through running a series of evening talks, activities and village based exhibitions resulting in a sense of place at parish level and higher value concerning common heritage.

Children will also be engaged in a series of workshops held in their local orchard and in transcription from what they have learnt through their own poetry and art work. Local people will also be involved in map studies recording and demonstrating the change in orchard coverage in traditional apple growing parishes over the past 200 years.

The outputs of the project will be used in display material to be exhibited at local food fairs, heritage events, festivals and seminars.
