About the project
Location: Somerset

The LHI grant award is to fund over a one year period an "Archive Project" which is to photograph digitally records, drawings, books, etc. that are held in the Gauge Museum and create an indexed database that will be attached to the railway's website in order to assist students studying our railway heritage.

It is also intended to furnish an area within the museum's theatre with a computer complete with large screen for individual and group access to the information.

The project will also involve working closely with local school children to enable a hands on approach on how the railway developed and how local people and industry relied on the railway.

A heritage trail will also be created from Bishops Lydeard Station to the village with local involvement and local schools along the line will be encouraged to become Brunel Detectives seeking out Brunel's links with the West Somerset.

Schools will be encouraged to link with the railway and treat the West Somerset as being their railway, as part of their local heritage under the heading "Steaming Back".
