Worminster Dragon Festival
Location: Somerset

This project co-ordinated the design and construction of a permanent mosaic monument to commemorate a local legend - the slaying of the Worminster Sleight Dragon by Bishop Jocelin in the 13th century.

Artist Kate Rattray designed the mosiac and supervised volunteers from the local community through the process of production. People of all ages were involved, from toddlers to senior citizens, and including pupils from six local schools. A visiting group of children from Chernobyl also participated as part of an exchange project.

The completed mosaic can be found along the Moat Walk beside the Bishop's Palace in Wells, and is publicly accessible at all times. Photographs and other material from the project are accessible in the local museum, and can also be seen on the artist's own website.
