Harry's Ode
Location: Birmingham
We have been working with local historian and poet Harry Reeves from the beginning of the River Rea Heritage Trail project.
Harry has a great love of the River Rea and has composed this Ode to celebrate the trail opening this Easter Monday 28th March 2005
The River Rea Heritage Trail
At last Harry’s wish has come true, There’s a heritage trail on the Rea, It’s a vision he had some years ago- But now it is well on its way.
We have to thank Penny from Frankley, And the friends group from Balaam’s Wood, They have worked hard to set up the funding And establish the trail for our good.
The route starts off on the Waseleys And goes on to Cannon Hill Park, There’ll be signposts to show you the way- In case you get lost in the dark!
There’s lots of historical interest As you wander along the Rea, So pause, and read the display boards To see what they have to say.
Long ago there were mills on the river, Sadly there are none today, But if you want more information- Read the boards as you go on your way.
There are education packs for the children To learn about our River Rea, So we hope that some teachers will help them And set up a project one day.
The trail will be opened next Easter, With a fun day in Kings Norton Park, And events and displays for all ages, While a duck race will make the dogs bark!
The Rea is an urban river As it flows on its way into town, But as well as its flora and fauna- There’s a Heritage Trail to walk down!
