River Rea Heritage Trail
Location: Birmingham
The group want to establish the River Rea Heritage Trail which is a walking route from the source of the River Rea (Waseley, Worcestershire) to Cannon Hill Park (Edgbaston, Birmingham). Along the way they want to interpret the history of man and the Rea, picking out the many interesting heritage features along the route, such as Balaams Wood, Gannows Green Moat - a Scheduled Ancient Monument and the mills that formed the Rea’s industrial heritage.
As well as the interpretation boards the groups are hoping to provide the information in audio format in different languages to cater for Birmingham's ethnically diverse population. Working with the council and other voluntary groups along the Rea they are going to provide walks, talks, conservation events, children's play school activities and schools projects they have ambitious plans for the launch through extensive publicity and a family orientated event, including a rubber duck race!
The project has also commissioned a website to be built that will provide an interactive virtual tour of the heritage path along the river. The virtual tour will enable visitors to explore selected sites of archeological interest along the way and will include exploration of the floor plans of some of the buildings.
